Kazakhstan: 10 years in the Bologna process

Trilingualism should be encouraged at the state level. We should work to breakthrough in learning the English language. Possession of this "lingua Franca" of the modern world will open up new unlimited opportunities in life for every citizen of our country." Message of the former President of Kazakhstan N. As part of the implementation of the parameters of the Bologna process in Kazakhstan, trilingual education is being introduced at all levels of education in order to form a multicultural personality. Education standards are being reformed, special groups are being opened, and multilingual groups are functioning, where training is conducted in three languages.

Since 2016, universities have switched to the model "50:20:30" (50% - in their native language, 20% - in a second language (Kazakh or Russian), starting from the 3rd year of study-30% – in English) according to The roadmap for the development of trilingual education for 2015-2020.

In the 2019-2020 school year number of students in three languages in the universities of the country is 56 057 people (in the 2018-2019 academic year studied 52 544 people). In the 2019-2020 academic year, the students in the three languages compared with the 2018-2019 academic year increased by 6% (3 of 244 people), respectively in bachelor – 3 068 people (7%), master's degree – 24 people (0.5%), in doctoral studies – 152 people (25%).
